Your Audio Pro

About Us

So who are we? We're people who are a lot like you, we just headed down the road of learning and even teaching in the audio world many years ago. Some of us having been on this road for decades, others are almost as new to this industry as the technology is - but all of us have an in depth understanding of various segments of the audio industry, and have successfully taught others how to use it. Currently our base is in Burlington, VT - but you may be surprised how we can help you, just like we have many others, regardless of what part of the country you are in.

To find out more - just click the button above or call 240-54-AUDIO (240-542-8346) and you'll be connected to the first member of our team available. Please note that, while quotes, consultations and general information are free, we cannot offer technical support or training until payment arrangements have been made.

Mel Allen

Formerly sitting in the partner seat, we're happy to have Mel on our team. Mel started in radio in 1987 at a college radio station, WJSC, while still in High School. After a few years, in 1994, he was hired to do production and engineering at a local radio group called Sison Broadcasting in Colchester, Vermont. There Mel learned all the basics of engineering live sporting event broadcasts, commercial production, recording clients for their commercials, writing copy (the scripts for commercials) and started to do voiceovers on commercials both on his own and for the radio station.

Mel spent the next few years switching between a handful of stations - produced a morning radio show (Corm and the Coach in the Morning), serving as Production Director for The Champlain Radio Group, Hosted and/or been a key member of numerous radio programs, and as a Writer/Producer/Director of television commercials, promotions and specialty programming for WCAX-TV. Mel's forte much of that time, and since, was working with clients and developing talent for voiceovers. Recent years found Mel providing voiceover coaching to hundreds of clients.

Mel has also been heavily involved in the setup, recording and distribution of podcasts. Using the skills he developed in radio to plan a show, contact compelling guests and reach new audiences by blending traditional & newer forms of media. Having been in the industry for several years, he has learned the right and wrong ways to work with audio - and how to put clients, who often nervously found themselves behind a mic, at ease.

Aaron Sullivan

Aaron's first job was literally right out of school, working with the current technology available for audio. He's our resident tech, handling much of the technology behind the scenes, but also works directly with students who enroll in our training classes, has great engineer skills and is always a pleasure to work with. Students can't say enough about their experiences with Aaron!

In Aaron's own Words: "I've studied music since youth - always been fascinated with and involved in recording it. A local studio hired me right out of college where I worked for just under two years. I worked in post production from the get go. Soon though, they started flying me around the country to teach Pro Tools a couple times a month, which I admit I fell in love with almost immediately. Since then I’ve been making my living doing independent projects and working as a subcontractor for some pretty cool people. I look forward to teaching some of you very fine folk!

I am skilled in Pro Tools, Advanced Computing, Snowboarding and Jamming out on my Strat. I’ll be happy to teach you anything I know, and don’t at all mind teaching if you’re a beginner."

Aaron will champion your creative spirit and work with you to insure your studio is giving you a great sound. As one of our resident ProTools instructors, he continuously works to refine the programs we teach based on his own real life experience learned while teaching, creating and refining ProTools classes across the country.

Partners

In today's world, partnerships are essential. With the combination of technology available and necessary to provide services in a timely manner, we work with a number of groups who offer our services not as confusing a la carte options, but viewed from several perspectives - or handed off seamlessly from one to another. We can call upon each of our partners to give valuable input and, if necessary, training for each client, while offering these services at a lower cost than possible working with each of our partners individually.

BASIC Computing

Many people entering the digital age feel that they have been left behind. Put an old audio pro behind a reel to reel tape machine, they can splice and edit like there's no tomorrow. However, some of these same people don't know the basic computing skills. That's where BASIC Computing comes in. Teaching the skills for general computer use, attaching files to emails, FTP servers or more, learning how to use search engines properly and where to find the computer files, folders and menus. BASIC Computing teaches these and more in a judgment free environment where clients are free to ask the questions they have often been afraid to ask before. If you need to learn the BASIC Computing skills first, we'll send you there to get your skills polished, then teach you the rest.

He brings the familiarity of working in various broadcasting studio environments for years and years on end and has numerous connections in the voiceover world.

He has coached and mentored many on the basics of voice-overs, recording, editing, and is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to podcasting and the setup of online distribution channels, blogging and more. Mel recently was invited to join us after  he asked us to share his knowledge with you - look for his advice currently in our blog - with his series of Home Studio Equipment Reviews and Recommendations.
